The University of Washingtonís Compensation Office has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time temporary Human Resources Compensation Consultant.

 

Reporting to the Executive Director of HR Compensation, but receiving functional leadership from the Medical Center's Compensation Lead, this professional level position has substantial responsibility for exercising discretion and independent judgment in effecting, executing, and discharging various aspects of the compensation and classification function for UW Medicine, including UW Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center.

Advise clients and/or deliver specific products/services for classified, professional staff and other non-academic UW personnel in the areas of classification, compensation, and in organizational restructuring.

This position functions in a highly complex compensation environment involving multiple unions and various State and Federal regulations.

UW HR is in the process of implementing Workday, a new HR payroll and information system targeted for go-live in June 2016.

***Most Compensation systems and processes will change over the coming year in preparation for operations under the new system, and are expected to continue to change further during the 1-2 year stabilization period after go-live.***

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Educate clients on the various components of the UW Compensation system as needed. Work with HR colleagues and clients to develop creative compensation and classification solutions considering the goals of the organization, recruitment and retention issues, staff planning and/or career ladders, recognition of team and individual performance, etc.

Provide comprehensive compensation support to assigned client areas. Make decisions regarding best course of action for compensation and classification issues, and provide advice and counsel to all levels of employees.Perform the following responsibilities for assigned client areas:

Evaluate new and existing professional staff positions using a point factor job evaluation system, and recommend salary ranges that maintain equitable salary relationships across UW Medicine. Review and evaluate jobs on FLSA exemption criteria. Provide advice and counsel on issues pertaining to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Evaluate existing contract classified and classified non-union positions.Use job specifications, desk audits, and interviews to determine appropriate classification.Interpret contractual language to administer changes to classification/compensation and anticipate possible labor relations issues arising from classification misalignment. May classify new union-represented and non-represented positions as required. Assist in developing new classification specifications to be proposed to the unions and/or to the Washington State Department of Personnel. Attend allocation appeals as necessary.

May conduct analysis using survey results and make recommendations for proposed Professional and Classified staff salary adjustments; as needed, prepare costing analysis for special pay requests for classified staff jobs. May coordinate special pay requests to the Washington State Office of Financial Management for salary and premium pay for classified non-union employees. Such requests would seek to maintain classified non-union equity and alignment with represented classifications, in observance of the UW's commitment to equal treatment of its classified non-union employees.

Working closely with HR Labor Relations staff, coordinate reallocations out of a bargaining unit to another union, classified non-union or exemption to a Professional Staff position. Meet and discuss with HR Labor Relations and labor union representatives as necessary.Act as University expert to defend reallocation determinations if actions are challenged through contract classified grievance or classified non-union appeal processes.

Prepare responses to local, state and national salary surveys; organize, analyze and produce specialized reports including costing analysis.Compile and distribute statistical reports dealing with staff classifications and compensation including salary changes, trends and relationships; and analyze competitive labor market conditions.

Conduct compensation and classification related training to further enhance understanding of UW policy, federal and state regulations, and creative ideas of administering programs that assist in the recruitment, retention and development of staff that meet unit objectives.

As a member of the Compensation team, interact with team members, provide suggestions and implement changes to work processes. Assist in developing plans and in implementing enhancements to compensation and classification systems.

Work collaboratively with other University staff organizations such as Payroll, or Information Systems, for the purpose of implementing mass employee salary adjustments and developing new or enhancing existing classification and compensation systems.

Miscellaneous

Proactively identify compensation and classification issues and independently resolve them within the framework of the UW Compensation system.

Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

-Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or Public Administration or related field.

-Three years of progressively responsible work in Human Resources, to include one year of compensation experience, such as working with job descriptions or classification specifications to evaluate job content, or interpreting and applying the provisions of the FLSA.

-Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and Access).

-Experience working in an environment that requires excellent customer service skills.

-Demonstrated excellent writing and oral communications skills.

-Demonstrated ability to communicate to all levels of management including sensitive communications to senior leadership using the applicable communication method.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

 

DESIRED:

-Certification as a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP).

-Certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR).

-Experience working in a healthcare or medical industry or familiarity with medical or scientific professions.

-Experience working with a workforce that is unionized.

-Ability to be pro-active about finding solutions to customer issues with a "can do" attitude.

-Ability to change and adapt to rapidly evolving office procedures and administrative systems.

Director, Human Resources

 

Summit Pacific Medical Center, Elma WA, is seeking an HR Director to advance and optimize our HR function. This is a hands-on leadership position that requires working knowledge across the full spectrum of HR, creativity and strong strategic thinking skills, as well as advanced technical skills.

Job Responsibilities

         Plans, organizes, and directs human resources activities and programs. Manages day-to-day operations of the human resources department to ensure actions are carried out in an accurate and timely manner. Maintains all documents, records and files in good order. Maintains statistics and monitors HR performance; maintains and provides data to support or enhance operations. Manages HR team members in a manner that supports a high-performance and collegial work environment.

         Designs and manages compensation, benefits, and employee engagement programs and procedures in keeping with the Districtís philosophy and strategic objectives. Develops and administers a continuous job evaluation program to confirm that job descriptions, classifications and wages are kept current. Tracks and monitors employee satisfaction and engagement using a variety of metrics, indicators, and tools. Develops and implements programs to address areas of concern or opportunity.

         Oversees employee and labor relations issues. Facilitates problem resolution, conflict management, performance management, disciplinary issues, grievance procedures, fact-finding and investigations, and staffing and manpower planning. Provides advice to executives, managers and employees in addressing grievances and disciplinary situations.

         Oversees talent acquisition activities which include sourcing, recruitment and onboarding, including provider recruitment. Develops tools and procedures that support effective hiring, onboarding, and engagement. Oversees provider credentialing and privileging processes.

         Initiates actions to improve data integrity and standardization of processes. Ensures appropriate controls are in place related to personnel transactions and reporting. Maintains accurate and complete paper and electronic records. Conducts intensive and complex audits of employee records. Monitors key human resources indicators such as employee retention, turnover, workers compensation costs, sick time, overtime, charges and law suits, unemployment costs, and employee morale. Provides regular reports to leadership; recommends strategies to address areas of concern.

         Facilitates continuous process improvement. Participates in the development, implementation and ongoing assessment of human resources programs, policies, and procedures. Researches trends and best practices and develops recommendations. Monitors programs and policies; identifies opportunities for improvement and initiates appropriate enhancements and/or corrections. Contributes to quality improvement programs and initiatives in accordance with hospital policies, community standards, and compliance with all laws, regulations and requirements of appropriate licensing and accrediting bodies.

         Builds and maintains effective working relationships. Advises and consults with executives, managers, and other hospital personnel. Serves as a liaison across disciplines. Participates as an active member of various committees; leads work groups, projects and committees as assigned.

         Executes management tasks in an accurate and timely manner. Manages department to meet service and performance expectations. Maintains appropriate staffing levels and competency of staff. Maintains equipment and physical space. Provides effective leadership and oversight of assigned staff; leads by example and provides support, guidance, coaching and performance management when needed. Monitors and manages staff satisfaction and engagement.

         Maintains professional skills and awareness of regulatory changes, compliance issues, innovations and developments, through research and training/continuing education opportunities. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and federal, state and local laws. Stays abreast of trends and best practices. Maintains programs and records in good order, as required for efficient and effective operations.

         Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Organizational Responsibilities

Required Education and Experience

8.                       Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in sensitive or stressful situations; ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
